Pappy

My sweet Pappy passed away Sunday night at the age of 94. What a holiday season my family has been through. Even though I am going to miss his sweet spirit and contagious smile I am so glad to have the gospel and know that I will see him again. I can't imagine the joy he's having being reunited with my Aunt Linda.

It's always nice to reflect on the memories you've had with a loved one. I am one of his youngest grandchildren so I do not have any memories of him running around and having alot of energy. I do remember though with the energy he'd save up to play the harmonica and sing songs to me. One of my favorite memories was playing toss with a balloon with him at my fathers birthday party. We were playing for almost an hour and I was getting warn out so I stopped playing and he turned to me and said "am I out of the game?" haha oh Pappy. He's just adorable.

Below is a news article the deseret news wrote about him along with his obituary.

My Aunt was as close to a second mom as it could get. I remember her always wanting to help buy me dresses for my homecoming dances because she didn't have a girl of her own to buy one for. My favorite memory of her was wedding dress shopping with her and my mom. It was a special experience and got spoiled by two moms at my wedding. She was always there when you needed to talk or to ask silly questions like "how in the world do I make brown sugar soft again." I had the unique opportunity to go with my mom and cousin Jessica on Friday afternoon to dress her in her temple clothes. It was a very special experience to be able to have that alone time with her and be able to place her in her resting clothes with all of the love we had. It was very hard yesterday at her funeral but it makes me so glad to know that this is not the end. We could all just imagine the reunion of her and my grandparents. We're pretty sure my grandpa said something like "what the heck are you doing here!" but then nothing but hugs. I did have a little laugh though when I was saying my last goodbyes and looked into her casket and saw that someone put a diet coke in there. My uncle Randy (her husband) said something that I will never forget...

"I have not lost her... I know right where she is"

They have feelings too

I know all I write about is my little puppy but lets face it he really is my little child. It's been so interesting really seeing the emotions he has. He has a best friend named Roxy who is another boxer that is actually going to move in with us next week. They looooove playing with eachother and cuddling and what not. I never really did know how much he liked her until last night. Shannon and Chris (Roxy's owners who are moving in downstairs) moved some of their stuff in last night and then left. When they left Milo kept searching and searching for Roxy but couldn't find her. Jon and I were watching TV and just heard him whining downstairs and could not figure out what was going on. We came downstairs to him laying next to Shannon and Chris's stuff whining. Apparently he could smell Roxy on the stuff and missed her. All night he sat there just crying. We tried everything to get him to come upstairs, pig ears, slurpee, but all he did was just sit there and cry. We finally got him in his kennel and I woke up at 5am to him whining again. I thought maybe he had to go to the bathroom but no as soon as I opened the kennel he ran down stairs and began to whine again.

After what happened last night there is no way you can say he doesn't have feelings. Hurry up and move in Roxy you're breaking his heart!!! =)

Something always has to go wrong...

Every wedding has to have something go wrong right? As for mine Jon and I went to pick up his tux to receive a blue tux instead of his creme color that we ordered. Naturally I was historical since they weren't doing anything to accommodate their mistake and only got threatened to have the cops called on me because I was being "hostile." My friends wedding I think it was the grooms dad (is that right Shan?) the bottom of his shoe fell off that he rented! Really when else would a bottom of the shoe fall off besides a wedding right? Or perhaps the cake decorator got the dates wrong and you ended up having to get a cake from costco. Something always has to go wrong at a wedding right? Or else it just would be a wedding.... however I came across something today that beats everything I have ever heard. Take a little look...

Confession

I have to confess... yesterday I pulled out some christmas piano music and played it! I must be my mothers daughter. Not sure if I was just bored of all my other music and wanted some change; or if I'm really getting excited for Christmas... I think it's a little bit of both!

2nd thought... biggest loser last night. Horrible! Just horrible! I really didn't watch to many episodes in the beginning but then I watched one and was introduced to Tracy; aka the devil. I cannot believe this woman! She competes at every temptation = eating calories to win. Julian completely chews her out; talks with her for an hour tell her not to do it again, she says okay. Then the next day she does it again and of course Julian wants to rip her head off and says she wasted her time and then Tracy just gets all sad; what you dont think I'm worth it? DUH TRACY! you're not! You drive me nuts how you just throw people under the bus and pretend your all sad about it and bawling and when they start bawling you tell them to suck it up and make fun of them. Oooh Tracy how much I wanted you gone last night! And your team had the chance and they didn't do it! I only continue to watch this show to make sure you do not win!

I have a kid already??

Who would have known that when we bought this dog we really adopted a child? Our house is never clean since Milo has to have 20 billion of his toys out constantly. When I'm really into my show of course he has to me all up in my face wanting to play. The other day I came home from work and went to Milo's kennel to let him out and surprise! he wasn't in there. I thought well maybe Jon left him outside today... oh no he came trooting our of our bedroom. Apparently we need to child lock all our doors and the kennel now because this boy has figure out how to not only open all our doors but unlock his kennel now. Boy do we have our hands full! We are lucky in the sense that he hasn't ate any of our shoes; or furniture except for some reason he hates trees and finds it his duty to make sure all of them do not survive. He also LOOOVES to toilet paper our house. He just takes the roll and runs around everywhere in the house.
But just like a child... How could you just not adore this face???? =)

Flaming Gorge '09

Our little family went to Flaming Gorge with the Thorpes the end of August this year. We started the weekend off rafting down the river and little Milo got to come!! He just loved it!! He was actually better behaved than the little kids!! He just sat up in the front and looked at the water the whole time. What a little sweet heart!!!

The next couple of days it was pouring rain so we had to improvise a little bit, but the sun did start to come out sooner or later! Everyone had a good laugh at me because we were all under a canopy but Milo didn't fit and was out in the rain just covered in sand and mud just shivering and came and crawled up on my lap and huddled under my towel. Poor little thing was freezing!! hah everyone laughed that they would never want a wet dog on their lap let alone a muddy one; guess it just goes to show how my little Milo is my little precious. He did love playing on the beach though.

Do you want smore?

Some more what? smore! How can I have more if I haven't even had any! You're killing me smalls!!

Well I've never been on to really fancy a smore. I love roasting the mallow but eating it?... never been one to really enjoy that. I'd always force my nicely browned mallow onto someone else to eat.

Well last weekend Jon and I went camping with his sister and they put reeses peanut butter cups on their smores. Forget this hersheys chocolate thing. A reeses!! A little bit of heaven! Oh boy was it delicious!!! Thank you Alisa, now I can officaly say I want S'MORE!

Disney let me down =(

So last month I had the best idea that for my birthday not only will we be going to Disneyland (becuase its free on your birthday!) but that I wanted to get my hair done at the Bibbodi Bobbodi Boutique inside Cinderellas castle. They make you into a princess and give you glitter gallor! What more perfect than to be fancied up as a princess, in Disneyland, on your birthday!... Nope nothing!! Well yesterday I really started researching it more and it was like I was a little kid finding out there was no santa. This boutique is just a fake. The "fairy godmothers in training" at not licensed hairstylists and all they will do is either pull your hair in a tight bun on the top of your head give you a tiara and call you a princess or pull it back in a pony and stick one of those hair elastics with multicolored hair going every which way. How disappointing. I don't think I'd look like a princess just more like an ordinary girl at disneyland with way to much gell in my hair. So I've decided I'll just wake up early on my birthday and princess-ify myself!

So... now what else should I do in southern california for my birthday? Disney 2 days? one day? Anyone been to Knotts Berry Farm? Ideas? Places to eat for dinner on my birthday in Disney? or around Disney?

Sample anyone?

It's funny how you are married for such a short period of time yet feel you know everything about the other. Well Jon surprised me the other day. We were walking through costco awhile ago and of course I wanted to sample everything. Who goes to costco for shopping and not eating?? Oh whats this? hot pocket samples? MMmm! I asked Jon if he wanted some but he said no. I thought perhaps he just wasn't hungry. Later we went to Cafe Rio, delicious, and they were handing out free samples of Horchata, sooo yummy! Of course I jumped to get one and asked if Jon wanted one and yet again he said no. I said do you not like Horchata? and he said, no I just don't like samples. What??? How can someone not like samples? He then told me that he thinks samples are gross and it just reminds him of old ladies leftovers that no one wants. Ha how silly since they are made fresh right in front of you at costco. Oh well... I guess you learn something new everyday, I have a non sample husband.

Bragging Time

I think it's time for me to brag about Jon for a little bit. I know he works in construction and oversees all these things but it is so fun for me to actually see something he built. He is absolutely amazing!! I sure did marry a handy man. There is seriously nothing he can't do!

Waterfall that Jon built at a home above the Old Mill Golf Course.

Arbor that Jon built at our home while I had my surgery. I am in love with it!! Good job babe!

Surgery Update

I haven't wrote on the blog for awhile; but I think I have a good excuse. I had surgery on May 20th for my 2nd ACL repair, 4th knee surgery, and 9th surgery overall. What a blast!! The doctor had a little bit of trouble getting my screw out from the previous surgery to I have a larger incision than anticipated on the side of my knee to go along with the large vertical incision below my knee cap. Altogether I have about 5 stitching sites. I thought I would be getting along faster than I am; and am annoyed that after 2 weeks I am barely getting back to work when I only expected it to be a week; but what can you do? Jon has been great threwout everything. Always getting things for me and making sure than I am comfortable and happy. (doing cheeseburger runs and ice cream constantly throughout thee 2 weeks; hey whatever makes me happy right?) Sadly I have seen my ice cream diet shift to my tummy so I'm ready to start some physical therapy today and get things moving!! I saw my doctor last week and apparently my incision below my knee is getting a little infected and not healing properly but thats mostly because he went through the old scars so it's practically dead skin anyways and just taking a little more time to heal. My mom was a little nausiuos looking at it all purple and bubbly that I had to cover it while we were waiting for the doctors. I did play a little doctor last night and looked at it; Jon was still grossed out but it is looking much better! Here are some pictures.

<---Infected incision

This is my ice pack. It came with a small cooler that you fill with ice and water and plugs into the wall and circulates cold water all around my knee. Pretty cool and it came with the surgery! Maybe this is my punch card? 9 surgeries and you get a fancy ice pack for free?? ------->

Miracles Happen

This week started off as any other ordinary week. Really all my thoughts were on myself and my surgery next week. Yesterday I received a text from my mom that my Aunt DaleLene (who I am very close with) was in the ICU with a blood clot in her brain. Immediately my thoughts were turned to her instead of myself. How quickly things change. They operated on her last last night in hopes of removing the clot. I just got back from seeing her at the hospital and things changes drastically from when I saw her yesterday. Apparently her brain is now swelling so they are going to remove a part of her skull in hopes to help the swelling. Yesterday she was still talking and now I'm not even sure she knew I was there. Also this morning my mom told me that a girl in her ward (so my old ward) that I was friends with was just diognosed with Luekemia. Wow. What? Just got married in I believe december and now has to deal with that??

As I'm sitting here at work with my mind wandering. Why? Why does my Aunt have to go through this? Why does Britney have to go through this? Why was my cousins baby boy also diognosed with cancer?? Why do we have these trials? All the sudden the lesson gave in Relief Society on Sunday popped into my head. The whole lesson was about trails and why we have them. Talk about using these lessons throughout the week and our lives. A few ladies shared their stories about trials and it all came down to basically the same thing. God doesn't just give out trails just to give them out. He knows each and everyone one of us and the trials are here for a reason. It's interesting how when someone in your family is sick; how quick everyone is to help out and we grow so much closer. Since all this has just happened I don't know the outcome yet; but I do know that it is in Heavenly Fathers hands and these tough trails were given for a reason and no matter the outcome he loves each and everyone of us and never leaves our side.

All screwed up

When I got my first round of MRI's about 2 months ago I complained that my knee was killing; a very unusual thing for an MRI to hurt. I even asked my doctor "are MRI's supposed to hurt? Because well it did!" he just kinda brushed it off; thats weird but no big deal. Well surprise!! I know why! I have a metal screw in my knee that I totally forgot about! Apparently in all the ciaos of my last ACL surgery we forgot to remember the little detail that the doctor put a metal screw in my knee! Well hello; that would probably be why my knee was killing during the MRI! At least I know that I'm not just a complainer and there was a reason for me to actually be in pain. MRI's are full of intense magnetic waves so you are not allowed to wear any metal and especially have any metal in your body. Well OOPS!

I went to the doctors yesterday and he was very surprised with this screw in my knee and had to send pictures around to his Reps to try to figure out what kind of screw it is and what the tool is that he needs to get it out. That complicated things a little; but whats life without a little complications? I then had to go get a CT scan to make sure there was room enough to be able to remove my old ACL. OH yeah and I'm getting a cadavers ACL! Exciting no? It was that or have them take my hamstring from my left leg since my right hamstring was previously used. Surgery is scheduled for May 20th; all in all not as fast as I would like but what can you do? At least I wont be drugged up and on crutches for mine and Jon's anniversary! I was wondering how our dinner would go with me just being days out of surgery.... druling would be very attractive =)

Way not make it an even 8?

If any of you really know me; then you know I am accident prone. Who knows if its really my body that is falling apart; or its because of sports that my body is falling apart. Either way; it definitely has had its fair share of injuries. Needless to say I have one more to add to the group.

On Thursday last week we had an inter-company softball game which I was one of 3 girls to play. I have this rep at my work that I am amazing at all sports (thanks to Steph for telling everyone) so I had quite a rep to live up to. The game was going great. I scored 2 or 3 maybe 4 times and doing my thing. Then the last play of the night I hit the ball and knew it was going to be close. The soccer player in me all I was thinking was I'm not going to make it; so silly me I slid into first base. Yes first base. (and no I didn't make it) Now all you can just laugh at me because I've got it doctor after doctor "why did you slide into 1st?!" all I can say in my defense is... I knew I wasn't going to make it and just thought of the only thing us soccer players know how to do. Slide. Well there is a difference between soccer sliding and softball sliding because I didn't account for the base standing on top of the dirt. My right foot hit flat on the base and in turn instantly stopped my motion with the pressure residing on my knee. Snap Crackle and Pop. Yes for people who have not seriously injured yourself, those really are the sounds you hear. I knew in an instance; I've felt this kind of pain before and its nothing that I wanted to go through again. Please don't be the ACL.

Friday I made an appointment with my regular doctor to have my knee checked out. With my vacation plans for Mexico in a week and it taking 2 weeks to get into my Orthopedic doctor I thought might as well have someone look at it and have them tell me some good news so I can go to Mexico with comfort. Well those doctors words were ones I was fearing. "I can't feel your ACL or MCL." Sweet. I knew I knew what the outcome was; but I was not hoping to hear it. He asked who my Orthopedic Surgen was and that I should get in to get an MRI before my Mexico trip to confirm. I called my the Ortho and explained I was going on vacation next week and my unlucky situation. I went in that day for an MRI where they greeted me and said what did you do this time. Sad when an MRI place knows you. Today I dropped the film off to the doctor and shortly received a phone call.

"Is this BreAnn?"
"Yes"
"BreAnn... it's Dr. Winterton. I don't have alot of time as I am going into surgery... but we have bad news. You've retorn your ACL. How soon can I see you"

Ouch. I knew it was coming yet the words just hit me. I am all to familiar with this surgery and the long process of rehab and am not looking forward to it one bit. My last knee surgery, piece of cake. Off the crutches in 2 days and back to normal in a week. ACL is another story. 6 months and I can run again. One year and I can play soccer again. Not something I am looking forward to at all.

Maybe this is a blessing in disguise. They always are right? When I booked this trip to Mexico the only worry we had was the drug wars at the borders. Far far from where we'd be staying so we were not worried that much. Then this flu epidemic which seems to get worse by the hour. Still we were on the fence.. oh it'll be okay. Now the ACL. No water activities just sun bathing is the doctors orders. Maybe this is just the last push we needed to stay away from Mexico. However something that didn't require 6 months rehab and hundreds of dollars of doctors bills would have been nice. But I suppose I'll take whatever I get. And I'm getting a new ACL and an even 8 surgeries for my records.

Need some ice for that BURN!?

Today at lunch I decided that I would go tanning so that when I go to Mexico I'll already have a little tan so I won't have to worry too much about sun screen and what not. Good idea? I thought so. I ended up going to this tanning place right around the corner from my work and the lady put me in this "awesome bed. No one ever burns in it and its 10% healthier for you skin then the other ones. Plus it is our special this month so its half off." Thinking I had a good deal I went on my way. Yeah pretty sure I know why its half off. I am burnt like a marshmellow! Could not believe it, looked in the mirror and I was all blotchy; had the awesome goggle lines and was dying from the hottness of the burns. It would have been okay if I didn't have to go back to work. What a disaster! I scrummaged through my purse looking for a miracle and found a tube of concealer. I began to color my face in hopes of looking somewhat normal and headed back to work. Of course my office has to be one that everyone always goes through and I find myself hiding everytime someone walks in. Not practicle, but what else can you do.

Here's to trying not to get burned in Mexico.

Adventures of Milo

Milo decided to have quite an adventure this weekend. Friday we took him to the dog park with our friends Katie and Jesse. We love going to Tanner Park which is a dog park at the mouth of parleys canyon that is huge to say the least where you can have your dogs off the leash and mingle or just go on fun walks through the trees, next to the river, on the mountain or just in the field. Yes all that in one place! Fabulous! Needless to say this is Milo's favorite place. In the past when we have gone there have been dogs about every 100 yards or so. Perfect for a little dog and getting his attention when need be. However friday must have been national dog day because there was literally a bajillion dogs. Okay not literally but there was dogs everywhere you could see. People with even very well trained dogs were having problems keeping them by them; and as you can imagine Milo was quite overwhelmed with all the dogs and had to see/meet as many of them as he could in 2 minutes and ran all over the place. We of course looked like chickens with our heads cut off yelling for Milo and chasing after him. During the walk people who we had never even seen before would walk past Milo and say "Oh Hi Milo!" like they'd known him for forever. That boy sure knows how to get around! lol. He did have a little incounter with a bull dog. About the same size as him however the bull dog got his whole mouth around Milo's back. I have never seen Milo yelp the way he did then. I guess lesson learned Milo is no longer the king of the mountain like he thought he was.

By the end of the walk we got to the pond where dogs can swim around. We were trying to get Milo to go in and in his attempts to go around the pond actually slid down a 10ft concret wall smack into the water. We all just kinda stood around watching to see what he would do... however time went by and by and he still had not come up out of the water. My motherly instincts made my heart drop and start to get nervous that he wasnt coming up. I yelled to Jon and we must have one mind because the same time I yelled he was in the water going in after him. Poor Milo almost drowning! Jon said when he got to him Milo just couldnt figure out which was up and which was down but as soon as his head got out of the water he began to dog paddle. Hopefully he'll be willing to get in the water again!Jesse was quick with his phone and got a picture of Jon and Milo coming out of the water.

You've had a Birthday!

Shout HOORAY!

Happy birthday Husband of mine!!!

Shooting Weekend

Last weekend we went shooting with our friends Britney, Michael, Tanner and Betsy in the west desert. Jon and I haven't really been shooting that much; and never together so it was overall a really fun day! Milo actually loved it! He never jumped or anything at the gun shots and for the most part did a good job staying out of the way and playing on the dirt mounds.

The Adventures of Milo

Milo, Jon and I took a quick trip to Target the other night. Jon and I were only going to be a couple minutes in the store so we just stuck Milo in the back of the car (my mazda is a hatchback so we thought oh no problem he'll still be able to breath but he'll be stuck back there) locked the doors and were on our way. We come back 10 minutes later seeing my hazads flashing and thinking what in the world is going on? We come back to Milo in the drives seat and had apparently turned the hazards on and the brights.
Can't help but Smile

Splish Splash

Milo absolutely L.O.V.E.S the shower. It is the funniest thing. If someone is in the shower; well he wants to be in there too. Even if someone isn't in the shower he wants to be in there.

This is a picture of him in the morning while I'm getting ready... begging to be let in the shower. Usually he just sits in front of the shower until you let him in. Silly dog.
